Blood Donation

I donated blood today. I have to say that I’m pretty proud of myself. I already did a guide on what to wear to donate blood where I talked about what you should wear, but this is going to be a post on more minute by minute stuff, because I wish I had seen a post like this before I donated because I was so nervous. All for no reason too.

Donating blood saves three lives. I’m not sure if that’s exactly true, but that’s what they say. I also got a free check up which is great. They checked my iron level, blood pressure, and temperature. And after five days I’m going to know what kind of cholesterol I have as well as if I have HIV and some other STD (which I don’t have). I can donate every two months, and I think that I’m going to do that.

Oh yeah and I’ll get to know my blood type. Is it selfish of me to hope its AB positive?

I had to fill out this awful long survey. It asked a ton of questions that I have no idea about. Here’s a sample “Have you ever had sex with a man who’s had sex with a man”. Really because people would know about that. Oh and I did answer yes to the aspirin but still got to donate blood.

After filling out the paper I then had to do a mini physical with blood pressure and stuff and then they pricked my finger to do an iron level test which I passed even though I was scolded for not eating a healthy lunch (by the lady). So ha I know my body.
Oh yeah and see my gold shoes?

And here’s all the stuff on my arm while donating. The band was kind of tight but other than that it was all okay. To be honest I was really afraid of passing out but I didn’t. When I stood up I didn’t feel even a little bit dizzy or sick. Which is really cool because I barely met the weight, and I only did because I gained ten pounds during fall break. I think I did well because I’m in fantastic shape though.
You can sort of tell (barely) that I’m wearing a shirt from my Tj Maxx Haul.

At the end I got this cool sticker, which is actually really ugly.
