Book Review: Change of Heart

Change of Heart
by Courtney Walsh

Sometimes a step back is the only way forward. Evelyn Brandt’s carefully constructed life implodes when the FBI crashes her society lunch with news that her husband – a Colorado senator – has been arrested for embezzlement. It soon becomes clear he’s far from repentant, and this was only the start of many indiscretions. As the weeks following the scandal turn into months. Evelyn withdraws from the public eye, even shirking her duties with philanthropic Valentine Volunteers. The inquisitive group of women, however, are determined not to let Evelyn’s divorce destroy her. They have big plans to use her long-forgotten artistic talent to reimagine the city’s iconic lamppost hearts. But doing so will force Evelyn to work closely with Trevor Whitney, her ex-husband’s former best friend. Though Trevor has been letting her take refuge in his guesthouse, his curtness conveys his unease with the situation. Amid the beauty of Trevor’s farm, Evelyn starts to reclaim dreams she sacrificed to  become the perfect politician’s wife. And as creativity inspires them both, once again sees the girl he secretly fell in love with all those years ago. But when long-kept secrets threaten to ruin everything, is a change of heart too much to hope for?

Courtney Walsh is the author of Paper Hearts and the Sweethaven series. Her debut novel. A Sweethaven series. Her debut novel, A Sweethaven Summer, was a New York Times and USA Today e-book bestseller. Courtney lives with her husband and three children in Illinois.

*I was given this book by the publisher for review but of course all opinions are my own.

As I’m sure you already know I’m always up for a good romance. I was especially interested in Change of Heart because it isn’t your typical romance. Evelyn Brandt isn’t some helpless teenage girl or a woman in desperate need of a man to save her because she can’t handle life on her own. Change of Heart, is so much more than that. I love both of the main characters and reading this made me feel especially attached to Evelyn and her struggles. It’s a book you won’t want to put down. If you like A Triple Knot or Seasons of Tomorrow you’ll love Change of Heart.
