Book Review: Intercessory Prayer

Intercessory Prayer
How God can use your prayers to move Heaven and Earth
By Dutch Sheets

Pray for the impossible. Called foundational, revolutionary, illuminating, and motivating, Intercessory Prayer in a classic work, still fresh and inspiring after more than 20 years. This rich, biblical teaching shows how vital our prayers are and how God works in partnership with us through prayer. As Dutch Sheets explains the nuts and bolts of prayer with wisdom, gentleness, and humor, you will find inspiration and courage to prayer for the impossible – and the persistence to see your prayers to completion.

Dutch Sheets is an internationally recognized author, teacher, and conference speaker. He travels extensively, empowering believers for passionate prayer and societal transformation. Dutch has pastored, taught in several colleges and seminaries, and served on the board of directors of numerous organizations.

Looking at other religions I always found it interesting how modern Christians view prayer. I’ve seen others with specific rules for how to stand, what to say and what times prayer should be done. So I was interested in reading more about biblical prayer. Dutch Sheets’s book gives biblical, historical as well as personal insights into the power that prayer has. He often talks about the experience of prayer, not as much of why we do it for God which would have been a nice addition. However I do like the book and recommend it for those interested in Christian prayer. If you like When I Pray, What Does God Do or An Insider’s Guide to Praying for the World you’ll love Intercessory Prayer.
