Book Review: Life Creative

Life Creative
Inspiration for Today’s Renaissance Mom
By Wendy Speake + Kelli Stuart

Creative mom, do you feel like you have to sacrifice passion for practicality? Have you ever felt apologetic about your art? Or doubted that you could fit creativity into your busy home life? Have you assumed you’d have to give up your art to do something more “profitable” for your family? Dear friend, God has something special in mind for you during this intense season of mothering. Join Wendy Speake and Kelli Stuart as they share the inspirational lives of gifted mothers just like you, who are working in the cracks and crevices of each hectic day to embrace a new creative Renaissance. These moms are adoring the world with their gifts and demonstrating to all of us how to grab on to the beauty of this Life Creative. Here are stories of moms who are fitting their inspired lives into the everyday, ordinary places of motherhood: women like home decorator Melissa Michaels, jewelry designer Lisa Leonard, author Angie Smith, and recording artist Ellie Holcomb. Each page reveals how creativity and motherhood can combine to reveal the glory of God.

Wendy Speake is an actress who appeared on various television shows where she discovered ta longing to tell stories that edify women. Today she ministers to women through storytelling and biblical life applications. Her first book Triggers, was released in 2015.

Kelli Stuart is a well-known blogger and speaker who has covered multiple events on assignment. Her other books include Like a River from Its Course and 30 Days to Becoming a Writer. Together the authors founded a creative retreat for women, which inspired this book.

My thoughts: Throughout time moms have always had the primary role in their children’s lives and motherhood was pretty much set. In a more modern era you find women having to balance the role between being a mother and earning an income, creativity seems to have gotten pushed completely out. I love that Life Creative has individual inspirational stories of women being able to balance it, and make motherhood and their creativity mesh. If you like Everything that Makes you Mom or Colors of Goodbye you’ll for sure love Life Creative.
