Switching over from http://www.hannamarielei.com

Happy New Year! Like I talked about in my Basic Winter Break Look I’ve been hard at work fixing up my blog. The biggest project has been switching over from Hanna Marie Lei hannamarielei.com to Like Hanna http://www.likehanna.com and changing from Blogger to WordPress. While I’m extremely happy with my new URL I’m not quite sure about my switch to WordPress. There are a few really cool things about it, but I still have a lot to learn. So far I’ve switched over all my links, updated my pages, and found a layout that I love. I do still have work to do though, especially with my sidebar which is looking extremely barren. In addition to changing my blog aesthetics, for 2017 I’m planning on focusing on more DIY and recipe related posts in addition to my normal outfit and beauty ones. I’ve already sort of started on this if you’ve seen my latest posts, but I have a few more in the works that are beyond anything else I’ve done on the blog. In addition …

My Planned Parenthood Story

There’s been a lot of talk in the media lately about Planned Parenthood,  due to a video regarding their abortion practices being released by an anti-abortion group.  This isn’t a post to get in any sort of abortion debate (or really any debate) and I’m not normally one to talk about sensitive issues but I feel like in this case I have to share my experience. Back in middle school we had these weird sex information classes that would last about two weeks. They basically consisted of them telling us that our future boyfriends/girlfriends wouldn’t actually love us and were just taking advantage of us. And that we’d get diseases, lots of diseases. After two years of these classes (as well as similar but not as harsh ones in lower grades) I can tell you I was afraid. So irrationally so that whenever I sat next to someone shady I was afraid I could possibly get something, and on my first time donating blood I was happy that I didn’t have HIV. Quite funny because I’d …

Loreal Walmart Beauty Promotion

Back when I was a brunette (it wasn’t that long ago) I did an in store beauty promotion for Loreal. When I was contacted for this event I immediately said yes, because 1. the locations are very convenient, 2. I’ve actually colored my hair myself 3. And this might be the most important Loreal doesn’t test on animals, so I can represent them without any issue. Plus for such an easy gig the pay was good, and that’s always hard to pass up. But about the event.   After arriving at the Walmart, my first day was on Friday afternoon, and then two dates on Saturday I checked in via the mobile site of the company I was doing the promotion through. My Friday event didn’t have the proper material for me to do my demo so I got to leave early but my Saturday demo did. To get it I had to go to the beauty area of the store, find that manager and then go to the back (sort of a creepy place in Walmart) …

Visiting the Indianapolis Museum of Art

Today I spent the whole day in Indianapolis, first we went to Mass Ave for some shopping and lunch (blogging about it soon!) and then off to the Indianapolis Museum of Art for some culture. We parked in the garage underneath the museum so we could go straight from there into the museum. There was an exhibit about Georgia O’Keeffe since there was plenty of other things to do. Instead we decided to start from the highest floor at the museum and work our way down. This is where the modern art was housed. Of course I had to take pictures with a few of the pieces the first being the above sculpture. It’s made of the same stuff that’s inside of balloons, and from far away it looks super fuzzy and as you get closer it looks metal. According to my mama’s friend who has her Doctorate in medical stuff it looks gram positive cocci in clusters which is some type of bacteria.   The next room I went into was weird. It was a big …

A Visit to Columbus Animal Shelter

This afternoon I went with the other intern to visit the local animal shelter since it is on the air park. Of course since I love animals and have a used cat myself  I was very excited. It was easy to get there, they’re right off Arnold St and easy to spot with their unique building. Actually I was impressed enough with the building that as soon as I got out of the car I took a picture of the artwork on the side. It’s colorful and as all different kinds of cartoon animals drawn on it.  When we went in there were three women (girls) about my age, and we told them where we were from and asked for a tour. They immediately said yes and one of these showed us around. First we looked at the Kitty Playroom, which I shared on Instagram, then we went to see the “sick” cats (they have what would be a cold in humans) and then to the dogs. There were three areas, dogs up for adoption, strays …

Getting a Used Cat

I’ve been wanting a cat for what seems like forever. I asked for one for Valentines day and then my birthday, after that for Christmas as well. I kept trying though and constantly showed pictures of cats I liked to my parents which were from both the humane society and my local animal shelter. Somehow they finally came around and my mother and I went to the Franklin Animal Control building to get a cat.    Going in it wasn’t at all what I expected. It was so clean and bright, all the cats were in the cat room, but there were two rules, no bags, and no touching the cats. They’re all so friendly though and stick out their paws that you can’t help but touch them. I ended up trying three out in a little room, the first was rather nice but played too rough, the next was too shy, so I went with the third, Cricket. She had her microchip in and was in the box ready to go when one of the …

Nexplanon Didn’t Work for Me

I’ve done a lot of talking, actually two blog posts about having my nexplanon. First was about getting the nexplanon put in , and then after having it for awhile, a nexplanon review. This though is going to be the last post that you see about me having a Nexplanon because this is in fact the removal post. Its supposed to be a three year kind of birth control, but after less than six months in my arm, I had to have it taken out. My period wouldn’t stop. Every three or four hours in went a new tampon, not to mention all the cramps and pimps.  For a little less than a month it was all good, no weird hormones, no period or anything, and then it came. When my period was scheduled to start, it did and it was a little heavier than I thought it would be. I had been warned about this though, and figured it was just my body getting used to the hormones. The problem though was that my period …

Story of a FarmVille Addict

I know, I know this is kind of odd, and very embarrassing to share and maybe a little surprising considering the last video game post was my Tiny Monsters App review, but I have to get it out there. I’m addicted to the Facebook FarmVille game. I used to play Sims Social just check on my sim for five to ten minutes a day, or when I was really bored. When I found out that was getting canceled I quickly switched over to FarmVille. I knew a lot of people played it and actually I had tried it before, but never really got into it, so I decided to give it a second chance. Before I knew it I was getting up earlier in the mornings just to do a few things on it. Check my fiber and dairy farm, harvest a few crops, and I’d stay up a little later at night to do this too. They give you prizes for visiting your farm everyday so of course I couldn’t miss a day. There …

Implant Birth Control

Getting Ready   A few weeks ago I had the Nexplanon birth control implant put in. Basically it a rod that is similar in size to a match stick but is bendable. Its the exact same thing as the Implanon (if you’ve heard of that) except it shows up in an x-ray. Oh yeah and its three years of being baby free. I’m going to tell you a little about my experience getting the Nexplanon, but remember I’m not a doctor, and you should consult one and see what works best for you. This is just what happened for me and the results may or may not be the same for you. For more technical information you can visit planned parenthood    At first I debated talking about this, I mean it is birth control and it is kind of a medical thing. But then I remembered I’ve already talked about both of these before, with my corset review and my blood drive donation so here goes.    When I first decided I wanted birth …

Blood Donation

I donated blood today. I have to say that I’m pretty proud of myself. I already did a guide on what to wear to donate blood where I talked about what you should wear, but this is going to be a post on more minute by minute stuff, because I wish I had seen a post like this before I donated because I was so nervous. All for no reason too. Donating blood saves three lives. I’m not sure if that’s exactly true, but that’s what they say. I also got a free check up which is great. They checked my iron level, blood pressure, and temperature. And after five days I’m going to know what kind of cholesterol I have as well as if I have HIV and some other STD (which I don’t have). I can donate every two months, and I think that I’m going to do that.  Oh yeah and I’ll get to know my blood type. Is it selfish of me to hope its AB positive?  I had to fill out this awful long …
